President Obama Arrives in Kingdom to Meet King Salman

U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 where he was received by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman. The President was accompanied by a high-level delegation of current and former American officials to pay respects following the death of King Abdullah and reinforce the close bilateral ties between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. Royal Court Announces Death of King Abdullah;
Crown Prince Salman Proclaimed King

On January 23, 2015, the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia announced the death of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. Funeral prayers for King Abdullah were held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, and leaders from around the world, including U.S. President Barack Obama, are traveling to Saudi Arabia to pay their respects.

In accordance with the Basic Law of Governance, H.R.H. Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz was proclaimed King of Saudi Arabia, in a smooth succession indicative of the Kingdom’s stability. Further, King Salman announced a series of appointments naming H.R.H. Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz as Crown Prince and H.R.H. Prince Mohammed bin Naif as Deputy Crown Prince and Second Deputy Prime Minister. Additionally, King Salman named H.R.H. Prince Mohammed bin Salman Minister of Defense, while also reconfirming the mandate of rest of the ministerial Cabinet.  More...
 

Saudi Arabia’s 2015 Budget Maintains
Strong Spending, Diversification Initiatives

Saudi Arabia released its 2015 national budget, a continuation of the prior year’s diversification plan, which demonstrates the government’s ongoing efforts to boost long-term non-oil development through focused investment programs.  Focuses include education, infrastructure, health, social services, security services, municipal services, water and water treatment services, and roads and highways. The budget also aims to balance current spending such as salaries, wages, and allowances, which represent approximately 50 percent of total budget expenditures.  In the coming year, education, healthcare, science, technology, and e-governance projects will continue to be priority sectors.  More...

In collaboration with the Saudi Technology Development and Investment Company (TAQNIA), the U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council (USSABC) organized a member-only roundtable on December 16, 2014. On December 10, 2014, the U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council (USSABC) hosted a seminar and panel discussion in collaboration with the U.S. Commercial Service at the POWER-GEN International Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida.
