USSABC, ABGR Host Chicago Council on Global Affairs in Riyadh

WASHINGTON, D.C. — (U.S. Newswire) — February 17, 2009 —
The U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council (USSABC) and the American Businessmen’s Group of Riyadh (ABGR) hosted a delegation of the Board of Directors of The Chicago Council on Global Affairs at a breakfast in Riyadh on Saturday, February 14, 2009. The $67.3 billion in trade between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia in 2008 was the background of a joint USSABC-ABGR panel that discussed key topics, such as the current status of the Saudi economy, the legal system in Saudi Arabia, and the benefits of doing business with the Kingdom. Members of the panel included Mr. Peter Robertson, U.S. Co-Chairman, USSABC and Vice Chairman, Chevron; Mr. Dan Cagle, Chairman, ABGR; Mr. John Sfakianakis, Chief Economist, SABB; Mr. Ronald Pump, Managing Attorney, The Law Firm of Mohamed Al-Sharif; and Mr. Desmond Carr, Chairman, ExxonMobil Saudi Arabia.

“The Chicago Council’s visit is well-timed,” said Robertson. “Saudi Arabia is committed to an ambitious plan of national development that presents an abundance of opportunities for U.S. companies. “ He added “the USSABC is responding to an upsurge in inquiries about the Kingdom and is coordinating visits from a number of business delegations in 2009.”

The visit is part of The Chicago Council’s Leadership Study Mission, in which it has visited other Middle Eastern destinations in order to better understand the region’s political, economic, and social trends. The delegation is led by Mr. Lester Crown, Chairman of The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and includes high-level business and civic leaders from the city of Chicago.
