July 24, 2012 – Saudi Binladin Group was awarded a contract to construct a railway linking Jubail’s petrochemicals hub with Ras Al-Khair. The project will span a distance of 53 miles (85 kilometers), with a total cost of $177 million (SR663.75 million). There are several other rail projects taking place in Saudi Arabia, such as the Haramain High Speed Rail Project (HHR) that will link the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah with Jeddah, King Abdullah Economic City, and King Abdul Aziz International Airport. The HHR project will cost $8.22 million (SR30.82 million) and will cover a distance of 276 miles (444 kilometers). The project will include the purchase of 35 trains, each with 13 cars.
