Jacobs, SAUDI KAYAN Sign Agreement

June 26, 2012 – Saudi Kayan Petrochemicals Company (SAUDI KAYAN), an affiliate of the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), has awarded U.S. company Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (Jacobs) a contract to develop a process design package (PDP) and front-end engineering and design (FEED) package for its new plant in Jubail Industrial City. Under the agreement, Jacobs will develop the PDP and FEED packages for an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plant. With the input of ethylene from SAUDI KAYAN’s olefins plant in Jubail Industrial City, the UHMWPE plant will have a production capacity of 35,000 tons per year. SABIC plans to use its own technology for the production process at the plant. UHMWPE has uses in several industrial applications, such as batteries and industrial fibers.
