February 18, 2007-An Airbus A320 flew from Riyadh to Jeddah on February 17, 2007, marking the first flight operation of the Riyadh-based National Air Services (NAS), a private, low cost airline. The first phase of commercial flights began on February 25, with three daily flights operating between Riyadh and Jeddah. The second phase is set to commence in March, with flights to three Saudi cities. Within the first 24 hours of the company’s activation of its booking service, more than 2,500 passengers booked flights. NAS hopes to increase its domestic destinations to 23 cities by the end of the second year of operations.
