Online Training Program for Vision Rehabilitation Launched

February 24, 2011 – Saudi company the Ebsar Foundation for Low Vision and Blind Rehabilitation Services (Ebsar Foundation), in collaboration with U.S. organization Lighthouse International, has launched the online medical training program Lighthouse Mult-E-Skills Vision Rehabilitation Program©. The program is designed to help health care professionals, including nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and opticians, treat or better instruct the visually impaired. The course, available in English and Arabic, is an eight-lesson program and covers topics such as the practice and theory of vision rehabilitation, vision loss and its impact on function, low vision optical devices, and independent living skills. Lessons are specifically geared towards eye conditions like glaucoma, trachoma, cataracts, and corneal disease, which respond well to low vision care or vision rehabilitation. The Olayan Group provided a two-year grant to fund the course.
