SPX to Deliver Cooling Systems for Riyadh PP11
July 20, 2010 –Hyundai Heavy Industries Korea (Hyundai) awarded a contract worth $41 million (SR153.8 million) to U.S. company SPX Corporation (SPX) to design, manufacture, and supervise the construction of two dry cooling systems for the Riyadh Power Plant 11 (Riyadh PP11). Hyundai is working with GDF Suez and Aljomaih Holding Company to develop Saudi Electricity Company’s independent power project. The air-dry cooling technology is engineered with an energy efficient design that requires minimal water consumption, allowing power plants such as Riyadh PP11 to operate in arid conditions. The plant is expected to produce 1,730 megawatts of electricity and will be Saudi Arabia's largest combined cycle gas-fired power station when it is completed in 2013.
