Boeing to Improve AWACS Aircraft Radar for Saudi Air Force
July 1, 2010 – The Boeing Company was recently awarded a $73 million (SR273.75 million) contract to improve the radar capabilities of the Royal Saudi Air Force’s fleet of Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft. The role of the AWACS aircraft is to conduct airborne surveillance, along with command, control, and communications functions for both tactical and air defense forces. The new radar, which provides a 360 degree look-down view of the horizon with a range of 200 miles, will allow the aircraft to detect and track air and sea targets, while at the same time enabling communication between friendly aircraft.
