GE Chooses Kingdom as Base of Middle East Operations
June 30, 2010 – General Electric Company (GE) announced plans to use Saudi Arabia as its manufacturing and distribution hub for the wider Middle East region. GE’s 2009 Saudi revenues of $3 billion (SR11.25 billion), combined with the Kingdom’s impressive economic growth and infrastructure developments, prompted the company’s decision. At the U.S.-Saudi Business Opportunities Forum in April, GE signed a strategic partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Industry to utilize the country in its global manufacturing and supply chain for energy, aviation, and healthcare products. GE will focus on job creation, manufacturing, and technology development, in addition to offering financial services in the Middle East’s largest economy.
