Ma’aden, Alcoa Break Ground on Aluminum Plant
June 19, 2010 – Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) recently announced that it had begun construction on its fully integrated aluminum complex being developed in cooperation with Alcoa, Inc. The plant, located in Ras Azzour, will include an alumina refinery, aluminum mill, and rolling mill. Saudi Electricity Company is also building an adjacent power and desalination plant to provide for the complex’s infrastructure needs. Due to its integration, the aluminum factory will provide the world’s lowest cost alumina and aluminum products when it is complete in 2013.
