KSU to Establish Nanotechnology Institute
June 14, 2010 – H.M. King Abdullah recently approved the establishment of the King Abdullah Institute for Nanotechnology at Riyadh Techno Valley, a part of King Saud University (KSU). Saudi businessman Muhammad Bin Hussein Al-Amoudi of Corral Group and Midroc Group will finance the project, which has been designed according to the latest international specifications. KSU has developed the nano-program into a specialist institute for the technology, which is expected to produce international sales of more than $3.7 billion (SR13.9 billion) in 2015.

The institute has succeeded in establishing advanced infrastructure for nano-research and has attracted 30 researchers and post-graduate students in the field. The researchers will work to meet the Kingdom’s needs in the fields of desalination, renewable energy, and medicine. The university has also formed a 12-member scientific council at the institute, which consists of prominent scientists from five countries, including three Nobel Laureates. The institute will also be equipped with four types of laboratories and will boost the quality of research by gathering many experts into one place.
