Saudi Arabia and U.S. to Boost Cooperation in Healthcare
June 7, 2010 - Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeah, Saudi Minister of Health, recently held discussions with Francisco Sanchez, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of International Trade, in Riyadh. The two leaders discussed increasing collaboration in healthcare between the two nations. The meeting also involved a U.S. trade delegation led by Mr. Sanchez that represented some 15 companies, including those involved in the construction of hospitals and health facilities, medicine producers, and manufacturers of medical equipment, surgery tools, and other industrial and pharmaceutical products. Participants spoke about partnering in the provision of healthcare services for citizens. In May, Minister Al-Rabeah signed a joint cooperation agreement with U.S. Health and Humanitarian Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at the 63rd World Health Assembly to ensure continuous joint programs between the two countries in the areas of infectious diseases, exchange of experience and experts, and training health officials. Further partnership will continue with research centers in the two nations, particularly with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, which is working with the Kingdom to develop a Gulf Center for Disease Control. |
