Retail Sales Predicted to Increase $50 Billion by 2014

June 2, 2010 – Saudi Arabia’s retail sector is expected to grow by $50 billion (SR187.5 billion) by 2014 as more international brands look to expand their businesses into the Kingdom. According to the latest CB Richard Ellis report, which maps the global presence of 294 of the world’s top retailers across 69 countries, Saudi Arabia’s retail sales will grow from approximately $75 billion (SR281.25 billion) to $125 billion (SR468.75 billion) by 2014. The Kingdom currently ranks as the 9th largest global retailer. Saudi Arabia is now attracting 43 percent of all international retail brands surveyed and has overtaken better known retail destinations such as Hong Kong, Russia, and Japan. Riyadh and Jeddah, in particular, have moved up in the rankings as top retail cities, with Riyadh advancing from 25th to 14th and Jeddah moving from 28th to 17th.
