DHS Secretary Napolitano Visits the Kingdom
May 29, 2010 – Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano traveled to the Kingdom May 30-31 at the invitation of H.R.H. Prince Mohammad Bin Naif Al-Saud to meet with top Saudi officials concerning a variety of global security issues, such as counter-terrorism, counter-radicalization, and cooperation on protecting critical infrastructure. She also gave remarks to students and businesswomen about the importance of education opportunities and the value of public service for women around the globe. In addition, Secretary Napolitano stressed that the ties between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia remain strong, with particularly close cooperation on security and a shared concern about the activities of militants and Al Qaeda in Yemen. Furthermore, Secretary Napolitano promised the Saudi business community that she would work to remove obstacles in trading with the U.S. She noted that the close economic relationship between the Kingdom and the U.S. is a model that should be emulated and that the U.S. considers Saudi Arabia its first partner in the Middle East region.
