KAUST Completes First Solar Plant in Saudi Arabia
May 20, 2010 - German Company Conergy AG and Local National Solar Systems (NSS) recently completed a solar plant at King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST), making it the first and largest solar installation in Saudi Arabia. The 2 megawatt (MW) solar plant consists of two rooftop solar installations with a capacity of 1 MW each, installed on the north and south laboratories of the university. The solar plant is part of the university's larger goal to advance solar energy research through its Solar and Alternative Energy Science and Engineering Center and deploy clean energy solutions on the KAUST campus.
The photovoltaic plant occupies 7.2 square-miles of roof space and produces 3,332 MW hours of clean energy annually, while also saving up to 33,320 tons of carbon emissions. Conergy AG designed the plant and was responsible for the engineering, supervision, and commissioning, while NSS implemented the installation works and operational management. |
