U.S. and Saudi Arabia Sign Health Affairs Agreement
May 19, 2010 - The U.S. and Saudi Arabia recently signed a cooperation agreement on health affairs at the 63rd World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland. U.S. Secretary for Health Services Kathleen Sebelius and Saudi Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah signed the agreement on the sidelines of the annual gathering for the World Health Organization. The agreement will ensure continuous joint programs between the two countries in various health sectors and include the areas of infectious diseases, children's diseases, exchange of experience and experts, and training health officials.
The agreement builds upon the long standing relationship between the two countries in the field of health affairs. Under the joint program, the U.S. sent a team of experts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study the control of infectious diseases during the last Hajj. In addition, a number of medical universities have shown interest in learning more about the Kingdom's successful health programs including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and Detroit University. |
