Kingdom Tower Landscaping Awarded to U.S. Firm
August 20, 2012 – Landtech Design, a U.S.-based company, was selected by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture as the irrigation design consultant for the Kingdom Tower project in the western city of Jeddah. Landtech Design is responsible for irrigating 8.5 acres of green space by utilizing advanced sustainable irrigation technology. One such method is water harvesting that will collect rainwater and condensate from the building to supply the water for irrigation. Kingdom Tower, which began construction earlier this year, is expected to cost $1.2 billion (SR4.5 billion) and is estimated to be completed in 63 months. The tower is part of a wider Kingdom City project, which is a 2 square miles (5.18 square kilometers), $19.9 billion (SR75 billion) development that includes a number of commercial and residential buildings. Major investors in this project include Kingdom Holding Company and Abraar International Holding Company each with a 33.35 percent stake, and Saudi Binladin Group with a 16.63 percent stake. Once complete, Kingdom Tower is expected to be the tallest building in the world at .6 miles (1 kilometer) tall. |
